Morgan Stanley is a market leader in the Commodities sector. Since 1982, Morgan Stanley Commodities has been trading physical commodities providing intermediation for clients who need to transfer, transform or acquire commodity price risk. Headquartered in Westchester, New York, MS Commodities has 300 dedicated front office employees, from 30 different nationalities covering markets 24 hours per day. North American Power and Gas:

North American Power and Gas (NAPG) trades physical and financial power and gas in United States and Canada. NAPG creates and manages structured transactions in duration of one to twenty plus years. NAPG manages resources and provides load-following services, buys and sells tolls and other risk management needs for municipals, commercial and industrial load, load aggregators, independent power producers and renewable generation developers.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the management and optimization of physical power positions throughout the US and Canada as well as hourly management of Morgan Stanley's structured transactions. Due to the highly technical nature of this position, a candidate with a degree in Finance/Engineering or a similar discipline is highly desired. Also, as this market is significantly relationship based, it is important that a candidate have established relationships with both utilities and marketers within the region.

It is to be noted that this position also requires an individual to work on a team with rotating 12 hour shifts encompassing days, nights, weekends and holidays. A typical day begins with receiving a handoff from the team of the previous shifts events, followed by an assessment of the upcoming day and Morgan Stanley's positions, obligations, and opportunities in the market. Each hour of the 12 hour shift represents a separate and unique trading event in which the trader must compile analysis of the market, asses the resources and capabilities of Morgan Stanley's assets and contracts, and optimize these resources for maximum efficiency and profitability. This is all done each and every hour while maintaining and meeting all regulatory and compliance standards.

* Work with sales and origination team, including visiting clients, pricing trades, market making, communicating market information etc.

* Work with regulatory group to stay up to date on rule and market design changes

* Work with team on infrastructure, risk management and market knowledge

* Manage risk in trading books

* Work with middle office and back office on PnL and trade reconciliation

* Work with IT in improving processes and systems

* Represent Morgan Stanley at industry events

* Excellent analytical and quantitative skills

* Strong research and communication skills

* Strong interest in the commodities space (particularly energy commodities)

* Must be an excellent team player and good multitasker

Base capabilities navigating big organizations and coordinating with diverse groups of individuals

Desired:

* Minimum 2-3 years relevant work experience in a relatively quantitative role macroeconomic financial markets.

* Commodities knowledge or expertise

Educational Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with a minimum 2:1 degree classification or equivalent. : Preferably in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematical Economics.
